What is Internal Systems Therapy?

Have you ever felt torn in a decision? A part of you wants to do this, another part of you wants to do that. Both parts have valid reasons, so which one do you choose. And who is even the ‘you’ who picks which one to side with?

If you find yourself compelled toward people pleasing, binge eating, substance abuse, perfectionism; and/or feeling anxious, depressed, numb, indifferent (just to name a few), these may all be signs that you are carrying some burdens or experiencing some polarisation in your parts that need to be heard and addressed.

The good news is that your Self is there to help and heal. As a first step, ask your parts to take a seat in a stadium or classroom. Which one would like to talk first? What would they like you to know? Why are they there? Give them some airtime and hear them out. That might be all they need.

I continue to use IFS to heal some of my own parts who are holding pain and distress. It is one of the most powerful therapies I have come across, and I am so grateful to have the opportunity to help others in the same way.
